bitspeed.org — For the Project That Tracks What Actually Matters
Every serious benchmarking effort eventually outgrows its GitHub repo name.
The open LLM leaderboard, MLPerf inference, the llama.cpp speedrun threads, the tokens-per-second tables that circulate on every developer forum whenever a new model drops — these are the resources practitioners actually use. They are not maintained by the companies being benchmarked. They exist because someone decided the number mattered and built the infrastructure to track it honestly.
bitspeed.org is available for that project.
Why the name fits
Inference benchmarking is fundamentally about one thing: how fast bits move through a model. Prompt tokens in, completion tokens out, latency measured end-to-end, throughput measured under load. “BitSpeed” names that operation at the level of what’s actually happening — not the model name, not the provider, not the hardware generation. The rate at which information is processed.
A project living at bitspeed.org signals independence before a visitor reads a single data point. The .org extension does work that .com cannot: it positions the effort as infrastructure for the community rather than a product with a motive. That distinction matters when your credibility depends on not being owned by anyone you’re measuring.
The namespace
The .com was BitSpeed LLC, a file-transfer software company that closed in 2019. Deadpooled, no active trademark. The .io is an unrelated crypto scam site with no legitimate presence. Neither has any bearing on the .org.
The domain is clean, unbuilt, and available now.
What it could anchor
A continuously updated leaderboard tracking tokens-per-second across inference providers and hardware configurations. A methodology document the community can fork and dispute. A neutral space where llama.cpp, vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, and whatever ships next year get measured against the same standard. The kind of resource that gets cited in model release threads because it exists and because it is trusted.
The domain does not build the project. But it gives the project a name worth keeping.
